Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas have found Boromir dying from wounds inflicted by orcs and no sign of the two other hobbits, Pippin and Merry. They start to track the rest of the orcs, trying to find the kidnapped hobbits. They encounter the Rohirrim, the men of the horses, and go into war against the orcs and the tower of Saruman the white.
Meanwhile Merry and Pippin meet a talking and walking tree named Treebeard and start a journey all to themselves.
Frodo and Sam have started their journey to Mordor to destroy the one ring, along the way they meet Gollum and he leads them along into the journey.
As usual I am convinced these are one of the greatest fantasy books of our generation. I either love or flat out hate the characters by this point and they continue to grow every chapter. The places they describe are wondrous and intimidating and you can nearly see them with our own eyes. The only problem I had with this entire book is that I have an irrational fear of Gollum due to my mother showing me the movies when I was around 5. Now I can't stand to see or read about him without having mini panic attacks. Thank you, Mom,
I recommend this to any one over the age of ten, due to violence and odd language use.
